  15.      _g_z_f_o_r_c_e forces a .gz extension on all _g_z_i_p files so that _g_z_i_p will not
  16.      compress them twice.  This can be useful for files with names truncated
  17.      after a file transfer.  On systems with a 14 char limitation on file
  18.      names, the original name is truncated to make room for the .gz suffix.
  19.      For example, 12345678901234 is renamed to 12345678901.gz. A file name
  20.      such as foo.tgz is left intact.
